Former CM Channi wins from Jalandhar, AAP’s minister Meet Hayer won from Sangrur

Chandigarh: Counting of votes is underway for 14 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab and Chandigarh. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer has won from Sangrur. He defeated sitting MP Simranjit Singh Mann of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) by nearly 1.68 lakh votes.

In Jalandhar, Charanjit Singh Channi of Congress has also won. He defeated BJP’s Sushil Kumar Rinku by 1,75,993 votes.

Independent candidates Amritpal Singh and Faridkot Sarabjit Singh Khalsa are leading from Khadoor Sahib. Apart from this, there is a tight fight in Anandpur Sahib, Ferozepur and Patiala seats.

Nine counting centres have been set up for each seat in which 15000 employees have been deployed. More than 12,000 security personnel have been deployed to prevent any disturbance.
