Former Justice Nirmal Yadav acquitted in 17-year-old cash case
New Delhi: A special CBI court has acquitted former Justice Nirmal Yadav in a long-pending case involving cash allegedly sent to her residence. The verdict was delivered by Justice Alka Malik. It was reported that Yadav was not present during the hearing.
The case, dating back 17 years, saw final arguments concluded earlier in the day. The prosecution had presented six witnesses as per the orders of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Public prosecutor Narinder Singh argued that the case was proven beyond doubt.
However, advocate Vishal Garg Narwana, representing Justice Yadav, contended that she was falsely implicated by the CBI, which had initially submitted a closure report. Other defense lawyers also argued that the prosecution failed to substantiate the allegations.
The case originated on August 16, 2008, when Chandigarh Police registered an FIR after a bag containing Rs 15 lakh in cash was allegedly delivered to the residence of Justice Nirmaljit Kaur of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
