Former MP Sajjan Kumar convicted in 1984 Sikh riots case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday convicted former Congress MP Sajjan Kumar for murder and other charges in the Saraswati Vihar case related to the 1984 Sikh riots. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja delivered the verdict.
The case involves the killings of Jaswant Singh and his son Tarundeep Singh on November 1, 1984, in West Delhi’s Raj Nagar area. A mob armed with iron rods and sticks attacked their homes around 4.30 pm.
Sajjan Kumar is already serving a life sentence in another case related to the 1984 Sikh riots in Delhi Cantonment. He was brought to court from Tihar Jail for the pronouncement of the verdict.
The case was initially registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station before being handed over to a Special Investigation Team. On December 16, 2021, the court found a prima facie case against Kumar and framed charges against him.
