Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh passes away at 92
New Delhi: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, widely regarded as the architect of India’s economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.
Tributes poured in from across the political spectrum, with leaders expressing their condolences and highlighting Singh’s monumental contributions to the nation.
President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Congress leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge were among the many who paid their respects.
Prominent leaders such as Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also attended a meeting to honor his memory.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of Dr. Manmohan Singh. His vision and leadership during a critical period in India’s history will always be remembered.”
Manmohan Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and was instrumental in ushering in economic liberalization during his tenure as Finance Minister in 1991. His passing marks the end of an era in Indian politics and governance.
