Haryana: More than 20 injured in stone-pelting and firing during procession in Nuh; Internet suspended
Haryana News: A clash broke out during the Brajmandal Yatra being organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Matrushakti Durga Vahini at Nuh in Haryana’s Mewat district on Monday, police said. There were reports of stone-pelting and arson following a clash between two groups. The miscreants also set several vehicles on fire. Stones were also hurled at the police.
According to the police, more than 20 people have been injured in the violence so far. There are also reports of firing by people in some places. Due to this, the road from Gurugram to Sohna has been closed.
According to the report, about 2500 people who came to participate in the Shobha Yatra after the ruckus are trapped in the Nalhad temple. These include a large number of children and women. Stones are being thrown outside the temple. Buses, cars and other drivers have also gone inside the temple to save their lives.
Internet shut down and Section 144 imposed
The Nuh district administration has called in police forces from other districts to deal with the situation. More than one thousand police personnel have been deployed. The borders of the district were sealed. Deputy Commissioner Prashant Panwar said that Section-144 has been imposed to maintain peace in the district.
During this period, the assembly of 5 or more people, carrying any kind of licensed weapons or firearms, swords, guns, sticks, spears, axes, jelly, knives and other weapons is prohibited. This order has come into force with immediate effect and will continue till further orders. Those who disobey the orders will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
