Haryana to move Supreme Court over Bhakra canal water, crisis deepens in 9 districts

Chandigarh: The Haryana government is set to approach the Supreme Court today to seek a halt to the flow of water from the Bhakra canal. Officials in Delhi are preparing a draft petition to be filed in the apex court, amid growing concerns over water scarcity in the state.

Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has convened an all-party meeting at Haryana Niwas in Chandigarh at 2 pm to discuss the escalating crisis.

Meanwhile, the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB) has scheduled a meeting with officials from Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Rajasthan at 5 pm in Chandigarh.

A high-level meeting between Chief Secretaries of the concerned states was held in Delhi yesterday, but no resolution was reached.

According to government sources, nine districts in Haryana are facing severe water shortages. If the situation does not improve, authorities may consider cutting the water supply to Delhi and Rajasthan, which rely heavily on Haryana for drinking and irrigation needs.
