Haryana youth deported from US arrested under POCSO Act; Two cousins held for murder at Amritsar Airport

Chandigarh: A youth from Kurukshetra, Haryana, who was deported from the US, was arrested at Amritsar Airport upon his return to India. The young man is accused under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly molesting a minor girl and threatening to kill her in 2022.

Following the registration of a case under various sections, he fled abroad the same year.

In a separate incident, two cousins from Punjab, identified as Sandeep and Pradeep from Rajpura in Patiala, were also arrested at the airport.

They are accused of involvement in a murder that occurred two years ago. Police investigations revealed that the duo fled to the US via illegal channels to evade punishment.

Balwinder Singh, the SHO of Rajpura City police station, stated that the accused have been presented in court and placed on a three-day remand. Their families, however, claim that the two are being falsely implicated.

According to an FIR registered at Rajpura City Police Station on 25 June 2023, the complainant, Harmanjot, reported that Hasmukh Singh had visited his street vendor near Dana Mandi at around 10.30 pm and started an argument.

Despite attempts by bystanders to defuse the situation, Hasmukh Singh called his friends, Sandeep Singh alias Sunny and Sukhdev Singh, who arrived with others in a Swift car and a Scorpio.
