How can someone’s house be demolished just because he is an accused?: Supreme Court
New Delhi: The Supreme Court today questioned how someone can be demolished just because he is an accused. The apex court said it proposes to lay down guidelines for the entire country.
“Even if a person is alleged, his house cannot be demolished without following the procedure laid down by law,” a bench of Justices B R Gavai and K V Vishwanathan said while hearing a batch of petitions against the demolition of the house.
The apex court, however, made it clear that no unauthorised construction by it will be spared.
“We propose to lay down guidelines for the entire country so that the concerns expressed over these issues can be addressed,” the bench said while posting the petition against the demolition proceedings on September 17.
