IIT graduate turns monk: Abhay Singh shares his journey from trauma to renunciation at Mahakumbh

Prayagraj: The Mahakumbh in Prayagraj has become the center of attention for a unique figure—Abhay Singh, an IIT Bombay graduate turned monk.

Known as Baba Abhay Singh, his path from academia to renunciation has sparked curiosity among devotees and visitors.

Speaking to media, Abhay revealed how childhood trauma, caused by constant parental disputes, shaped his decision to leave the material world. “My parents used to fight, and I was in trauma,” he shared, explaining the deep psychological impact of witnessing domestic violence.

Despite the challenges, Abhay excelled academically. He recalled his school days, where he practiced discipline and avoided distractions. “I used to wake up at midnight to study when there was no fighting,” he said.

Abhay stressed the importance of parents considering the impact of their actions on children, urging them to avoid creating toxic environments.

He believes his story carries a lesson for parents and highlights the hidden struggles that often lead individuals to spiritual paths.
