India announce squad for ODI series against England and Champions Trophy

New Delhi: India’s captain Rohit Sharma and chief selector Ajit Agarkar unveiled the 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy during a delayed press conference in Mumbai on Saturday.

Originally scheduled for 12:30 pm, the team announcement was made around 3 pm.

Shubman Gill has been named vice-captain for the Champions Trophy. Mohammed Shami returns to the squad for the tournament, while Mohammed Siraj and Sanju Samson miss out. Karun Nair, despite his stellar performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, has not been included, while Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has impressed since his Test debut, secures a place in the team.

Jasprit Bumrah, recovering from an injury sustained during the Sydney Test, has been ruled out of the first two ODIs against England.

Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Bumrah’s fitness is still under review, and Harshit Rana has been named as his replacement for the initial games. Despite these concerns, Bumrah has been included in the squad for the Champions Trophy, which follows the England series.
