Indian and Chinese troops exchange sweets along LAC on Diwali

New Delhi: In a gesture of goodwill, Indian and Chinese troops exchanged sweets at multiple border posts along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on Thursday to mark the Diwali festival. According to army sources, the exchange took place at five Border Personnel Meeting (BPM) points along the LAC.

This gesture follows a recent troop withdrawal at Demchok and Depsang, two friction points in eastern Ladakh, which many view as a step toward easing tensions between the two nations. An Army official noted, “On the occasion of Diwali, sweets were exchanged between the troops of the armies of India and China at several border outposts along the LAC.”

The withdrawal from these points, confirmed on Wednesday, marks a milestone in de-escalation efforts. The verification process is ongoing, and both sides plan to resume patrolling in these areas soon, pending final discussions between local commanders. Talks at the ground level will continue, the official added.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri recently confirmed in Delhi that a significant agreement was reached after several weeks of discussions, paving the way to address issues that have persisted since 2020.
