New Delhi: Train is one of the most convenient and economical means for both long and short distance travel in India. Among other facilities, Indian Railways also provides travel insurance to those who opt for it while booking train tickets online. When booking tickets through travel agents, or at the counter, if you do not ask them to select the option of insurance, then they will hardly book you insurance with the ticket.
This benefit can be availed by checking the ‘Travel Insurance’ option on the web page while booking tickets on the IRCTC website.
Let’s know what is its complete process:
Through this facility, IRCTC provides insurance cover of up to Rs 10 lakh to its passengers, that too at less than Rs 1 i.e. 35 paise. To avail this option, passengers will have to click on the option appearing in the name of insurance cover. When the ticket is booked, a form comes on the mail, which you can fill and submit online.
Any passenger who has booked a ticket from the IRCTC website or app can avail this insurance facility. However, this facility can only be availed by Indian citizens, and foreign nationals are not covered under it.
