IPL postponed indefinitely amid India-Pakistan military confrontation

New Delhi: The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been postponed indefinitely following escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Friday.

The future of the tournament had already come under doubt after Thursday night’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was called off midway due to warnings of possible air strikes in Jammu and Pathankot.

“It doesn’t look good that cricket continues despite the war in the country,” a BCCI official told PTI, confirming the suspension of the high-profile league. The IPL was originally scheduled to conclude in Kolkata on May 25.

Players from the affected teams, Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, are being transported to Delhi by road from Dharamsala following the abrupt halt of Thursday’s match.

Meanwhile, Friday’s scheduled fixture between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Lucknow has also been suspended.

At the time of the indefinite suspension, 12 league matches and four knockout games, including the final, were yet to be played.
