Judicial inquiry ordered into Mahakumbh stampede, Rs 25 lakh compensation for victims’ families

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a judicial inquiry into the stampede at the Mahakumbh and announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of those killed in the incident.

A three-member inquiry committee, led by retired judge Harsh Kumar, will investigate the tragedy.

Former DGP V K Gupta and retired IAS officer D K Singh will also be part of the panel. Additionally, a separate police inquiry will be conducted.

Adityanath, visibly emotional, stressed the need to determine the cause of the incident. He said the chief secretary and the DGP would visit the Mahakumbh on Thursday to assess the situation.
