Kangana Ranaut sparks controversy with Instagram post on Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri
New Delhi: Actress and Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has once again made headlines following a controversial statement on social media. On October 2, marking the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, Kangana shared a story on Instagram that has sparked debate.
In her post, she wrote, “Not the father of the country, but the country has a son. Blessed are these sons of Mother India,” paying tribute to Shastri alongside his picture. The comment is being interpreted as not only a tribute to Lal Bahadur Shastri but also as a subtle rejection of Mahatma Gandhi’s title as the ‘Father of the Nation’. This has led to a heated discussion online.
The title of ‘Father of the Nation’ was first bestowed upon Mahatma Gandhi by Subhas Chandra Bose, acknowledging his pivotal role in India’s freedom movement.
Kangana’s post has provoked strong reactions across social media platforms. As the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from the Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, this isn’t the first time she has been embroiled in controversy due to her statements.
However, in a follow-up post, Kangana praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for carrying forward Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness, especially on the occasion of Gandhi’s birth anniversary, stressing the importance of cleanliness.
