Kannada actress Ranya Rao denied bail in gold smuggling case

Bengaluru: The special court for economic offences has rejected the bail plea of Kannada actress Harshavardhanini Ranya, also known as Ranya Rao, in the gold smuggling case. The court also sent another accused, Tarun Raju, to 15-day judicial remand.

Ranya, the stepdaughter of a DGP-rank officer, is currently lodged in Parappana Agrahara jail.

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) had seized gold worth Rs 12.56 crore from her at Kempegowda International Airport on March 3.

Subsequent raids at her residence led to the recovery of gold ornaments worth Rs 2.06 crore and Indian currency amounting to Rs 2.67 crore.
