Kashmiri leaders highlight harassment of students across India after Pahalgam attack

New Delhi: Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, several incidents of alleged harassment, intimidation, and threatening calls targeting Kashmiri students have been reported from different parts of the country.

People’s Conference chief and Handwara MLA Sajad Lone raised concern on social media, stating that Kashmiri students had been “harassed, beaten up, bullied and even asked to vacate their residential places.” He urged the central government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the students.

The J&K Students’ Association also confirmed receiving multiple complaints from students facing threats and intimidation following the attack. The association called for urgent intervention to safeguard the rights and security of Kashmiri students across India.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said she spoke to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to convey condolences for the victims of the Pahalgam attack and also sought action to protect Kashmiri students and traders facing threats.

“I appealed for immediate intervention to ensure the safety of Kashmiris wherever such incidents are being reported,” Mufti said. She also expressed solidarity with the families affected by the attack and said the people of Jammu and Kashmir stand with the country in this moment of grief.
