Kejriwal announces Rs 18,000 monthly allowance for priests, granthis

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the ‘Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana,’ promising a monthly allowance of Rs 18,000 to Hindu temple priests and gurdwara granthis if his party retains power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections.

Speaking on Monday, Kejriwal said the initiative aims to support a community often overlooked in society.

“Priests and granthis are an integral part of our social fabric but remain a neglected class. This scheme is a first-of-its-kind effort to provide them with financial assistance,” he said.

The registration for the scheme is set to commence on Tuesday. Kejriwal also announced plans to visit the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place to oversee the registration process.

Similar efforts will be undertaken by AAP workers to register other temples and gurdwaras across the city.

The announcement comes as AAP seeks to secure a fourth consecutive term in Delhi, with the elections drawing closer.
