Kejriwal, Atishi meet EC, allege voter intimidation ahead of Delhi polls
New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal and Delhi Chief Minister Atishi met the Election Commission (EC) today, alleging that the Delhi Police were threatening voters ahead of the Assembly elections.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the police of creating an atmosphere of fear to discourage voting. He claimed that slum dwellers were being specifically targeted and alleged that black ink was being applied to people’s fingers to prevent them from casting their votes.
“Money is being distributed, and threats are being issued to influence voters,” Kejriwal said, adding that the AAP had informed the EC of these concerns. He thanked the commission for assuring them of free and fair elections and taking necessary steps to prevent any malpractice.
Delhi will vote tomorrow, with results set to be announced on February 8.
Chief Minister Atishi echoed Kejriwal’s allegations, accusing the BJP of using the police and EC to target AAP leaders while shielding its own workers. “People will respond to this with their votes,” she said.
