Kejriwal criticizes withdrawal of security cover as politically motivated
New Delhi: Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has alleged political motives behind the Punjab Police’s decision to withdraw his additional security cover.
The withdrawal, carried out on Thursday, followed directions from the Election Commission based on a recommendation by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Kejriwal said, “This is pure politics. Sadly, personal security is being politicised. There should be no politics over minimum security.”
Kejriwal also claimed that during a public meeting in Hari Nagar on Thursday, men allegedly linked to opposition candidates entered the venue and attacked his car.
“The police allowed men of opposition candidates to enter my public meeting and then attacked my car,” he stated, adding that the incidents were happening on the orders of Home Minister Amit Shah.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener further alleged that BJP workers had attacked him during an election rally last week.
In a tweet, the party accused the Delhi Police of withdrawing Kejriwal’s security at Amit Shah’s behest and questioned the Election Commission’s silence over repeated attacks.
