KKR become champions, win trophy for the third time
New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 to win the IPL title for the third time with the help of fast bowling and Venkatesh Iyer’s unbeaten half-century. KKR won the IPL trophy in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Now coach Gambhir has given KKR the IPL trophy for the third time as an expert strategist.
KKR has thus become the third team after Chennai Super Kings (five) and Mumbai Indians (five) to win three IPLs. Apart from Gambhir, head coach Chandrakant Pandit has played a key role in winning this title. Sunrisers Hyderabad, who scored the highest score of the season (287 for three), faltered in the final. The entire team was all out for 113 runs in 18.3 overs. It was also the lowest score of the IPL final.
