Madras High Court extends interim bail to Kunal Kamra till April 17

New Delhi: The Madras High Court on Monday extended the interim anticipatory bail granted to stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra until April 17. Justice Sunder Mohan also directed Kamra to approach the respective courts where FIRs have been filed against him.

Appearing for the petitioner, senior counsel V Suresh informed the court that three more FIRs had been registered against Kamra in Maharashtra.

He alleged that the authorities had visited Kamra’s parents’ residence in Mumbai and harassed them, indicating that hostility towards the comedian continues. He further claimed that police had summoned attendees of Kamra’s recent show.

The matter has been listed for further hearing on April 17.

Kamra, 36, has been summoned twice by the Mumbai Police following a controversy over his remarks targeting Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during a recent performance in Mumbai.
