Manipur CM Biren Singh resigns

New Delhi: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned on Sunday evening, with Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla accepting his resignation and appointing him as the caretaker chief minister.

Singh faced mounting pressure over the 21-month-long violence in the state, with opposition parties repeatedly questioning the NDA on the issue.

Before stepping down, Singh met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi on Sunday morning. A decision on his successor is expected within the next couple of days.
