Manu Bhaker, Gukesh among four to receive Khel Ratna

New Delhi: Olympic bronze medallist shooter Manu Bhaker and reigning chess world champion D Gukesh are among four athletes selected for the prestigious Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna, India’s highest sporting honour.

The other recipients include Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and Paralympic gold medallist Praveen Kumar.

Harmanpreet led the hockey team to a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, while Praveen secured gold in the men’s T64 high jump event.

All awardees will be felicitated at a ceremony scheduled for January 17. The list of winners was recommended by the Arjuna Award Committee, chaired by retired Supreme Court judge Justice V Ramasubramanian.

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya finalized the names using his discretionary powers.
