Methamphetamine worth Rs 173.73 crore seized at Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram
New Delhi: Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 173.73 crore were seized along the Indo-Myanmar border in Mizoram’s Champhai district, police said on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police conducted a joint operation and seized 57.9 kg of methamphetamine tablets at a border crossing point in Zokhwathar on February 9.
According to officials, the joint team spotted the suspects carrying the illegal consignment and ordered them to stop.
However, the suspects fled, abandoning the consignment. The seized drugs have been handed over to the police for further investigation and legal action.
Methamphetamine, also known as ‘ice’ or ‘crystal meth’, is a highly addictive psychotropic drug that produces stimulating effects similar to cocaine and poses life-threatening risks.
