More than 50 people died in UP hospital in 72 hours due to heat: Probe team

New Delhi: More than 50 people have died in Ballia district in the last four days amid severe heat wave conditions. At the same time, 400 people are said to be admitted to the hospital for treatment. However, officials have given different explanations for these deaths.
“Prima facie, these do not appear to be heatwave-related deaths as nearby districts facing similar conditions are not giving the same death figures. The initial symptoms were mostly chest pain, which is not the first symptom for anyone affected by the heatwave.”
Officials also claimed that the deaths could be water-related. “It will be investigated whether the deaths were due to water or some other reason.”
Earlier in the day, a chief medical superintendent-rank doctor posted in Ballia was removed from his post after he gave an on-record statement that several deaths were due to heatstroke, which had gone viral.
