Nationwide mock drill on May 7: what to expect and key precautions to follow, read here

New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has announced that mock drills will be conducted in 244 districts across the country on May 7 to evaluate civil defence preparedness. The decision comes in the wake of the April 22 terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam and is aimed at strengthening national security protocols.

This large-scale exercise, the first of its kind since the 1971 India-Pakistan war, is designed to simulate emergency situations in a controlled and safe environment. According to officials, the drills will train citizens on civil defence procedures such as blackout protocols and safeguarding critical infrastructure.

During the exercise, security agencies may simulate war-like conditions, which could involve temporary power cuts, communication disruptions, building evacuations, and first aid response drills. Authorities have advised the public not to panic and to cooperate fully with the procedures to ensure effective execution and awareness.

The Home Ministry said that these mock drills are crucial to assess public readiness and response during potential emergencies, and to improve coordination among various agencies.
