NMC cancels the recognition of 40 medical colleges in India, recognition of 100 colleges in several states including Punjab is in danger
New Delhi: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has de-recognised around 40 medical colleges in the country in two months for not complying with the prescribed norms. Another 100 medical colleges in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Assam, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Puducherry and West Bengal may also face similar action.
The source said that during the inquiry conducted by the commission, it came to light that the colleges had violated the prescribed norms. CCTV cameras, biometric attendance linked to Aadhaar and several faculty-related lapses were found in the colleges. According to government data, the number of medical colleges has increased significantly since 2014. The number of medical colleges has increased by 69 per cent to 654 from 387 before 2014.
