Om Birla elected Speaker of Lok Sabha
New Delhi: BJP MP Om Birla was elected speaker of the Lok Sabha through a voice vote. This is the second time he is holding this responsibility. Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed Birla’s name for the speaker’s post, which was endorsed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
The resolution was put to vote in the House by Pro-tem Speaker (Acting Speaker) Bhartuhari Mahtab and was passed by the House through a voice vote.
After this, acting Speaker Mehtab announced Birla’s election as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju escorted Birla to the Speaker’s chair.
