Parliament passes Telecom Bill, 2023, to replace 138-year-old law
New Delhi: Parliament on Thursday approved the Telecom Bill, 2023, which seeks to repeal the 138-year-old Telegraph Act and enact a new law in the country. The Rajya Sabha passed the bill by a voice vote after discussion.
The Lok Sabha has already passed it a day earlier. Replying to a discussion on the bill, Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said India’s telecom sector was in a very difficult phase but it has been brought out of there in the last nine-and-a-half years. He said that earlier this area was tainted with scams but today it is moving forward.
