Pension of elderly people restored in Delhi after five months: Atishi
New Delhi: Delhi Finance Minister Atishi announced today that elderly residents in Delhi have begun receiving their pensions, accusing the BJP-led central government of withholding payments for the past five months.
In a post on the social media platform X, Atishi said, “Good news for the elderly in Delhi. For the last five months, the BJP government at the Centre withheld the old-age pensions of one lakh elderly people in Delhi. The elders were very worried.”
She further said, “I am pleased to inform you that, after much struggle, the Kejriwal government has resumed the disbursement of pending pensions for the elderly. Five months’ worth of pension is now being deposited into their bank accounts. This pension is for those aged 60 and above with an annual family income of less than Rs 1 lakh.”
Under this scheme, beneficiaries aged 60 to 69 receive an additional Rs 2,000 per month, while beneficiaries from Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and minority communities receive an additional Rs 500 per month.
