PM Modi targets Kejriwal with ‘Sheesh Mahal’ remark amid Delhi polls buildup

New Delhi: With the Delhi Assembly elections anticipated in February 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a sharp dig at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal during a public rally at Ramlila Ground in Ashok Vihar.

“The country knows very well that Modi has never built a house for himself but has built more than 4 crore houses for the poor. I too could have built a palace for myself,” said PM Modi, indirectly criticizing Kejriwal for constructing an opulent residence as chief minister.

Addressing the gathering, PM Modi urged citizens to convey his message to slum dwellers, assuring them of pucca homes. “Cities will play a vital role in achieving the goals of a ‘Developed India.’ We are committed to ensuring that every citizen has a pucca house in this vision of development,” he added.

Reflecting on his political journey, the Prime Minister grew emotional, recalling his time in Ashok Vihar during the anti-Emergency movement against Indira Gandhi’s regime. “This place was a refuge for many like me who were part of the underground resistance,” he said.

Earlier in the day, PM Modi inaugurated 1,675 newly constructed flats for residents of JJ clusters and handed over keys to beneficiaries at Swabhiman Apartments in Ashok Vihar. The move aims to provide permanent housing solutions for the urban poor in Delhi.
