Priyansh Arya’s blistering century powers Punjab Kings to 18-run win over Chennai Super Kings
Chandigarh: Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs in an Indian Premier League match on Monday. Chasing a target of 220 runs, Chennai managed 201 for five in their allotted 20 overs.
Dwayne Conway top-scored for Chennai with 69 runs, followed by Shivam Dube (42) and Rachin Ravindra (36). Former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni entertained the crowd with a quickfire 27 off 12 balls, but the effort fell short. Lockie Ferguson picked up two wickets for Punjab Kings.
Earlier, young opener Priyansh Arya smashed his maiden IPL century, scoring 103 off just 42 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes. His century came in just 39 deliveries, making it the fifth fastest century in IPL history. The record remains with Chris Gayle, who hit a hundred in just 30 balls in 2013.
Punjab Kings, batting first, posted 219 for six. Shashank Singh remained unbeaten on 52 off 36 balls, while Marco Jansen contributed an unbeaten 34 off 19 deliveries. For Chennai, Khalil Ahmed and Ravichandran Ashwin claimed two wickets each, conceding 45 and 48 runs respectively.
