Punjab Kings qualify for IPL 2025 playoffs with 10-run win over Rajasthan Royals

New Delhi: Punjab Kings have secured a place in the playoffs of IPL 2025 after defeating Rajasthan Royals by 10 runs in a high-scoring thriller on Sunday. Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, Punjab registered their eighth win of the season, taking their points tally to 17.

Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Virat Kohli, have also qualified for the playoffs with the same number of points.

Sunday featured a double-header in the ongoing tournament. In the first match, Punjab Kings batted first and posted a formidable total of 219 for 5. Despite the big score, the match remained tense until the final overs.

Rajasthan Royals made a strong attempt in the chase, scoring 190 for 5 in 18 overs, with Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey at the crease. At that stage, the Royals appeared to be edging towards victory.

However, Arshdeep Singh turned the tide in the 19th over by conceding only eight runs, leaving Rajasthan needing 22 off the final over.

Marco Jansen then delivered a match-winning 20th over, dismissing Dhruv Jurel (53) on the third ball and Wanindu Hasaranga (0) on the fourth. Rajasthan’s chase ultimately fell short, ending their hopes of a win.
