Punjabi tourists find refuge in Kashmiri mosque during heavy snowfall

Srinagar: A group of Punjabi tourists stranded in heavy snowfall near Gund on the Srinagar-Sonmarg highway experienced the warmth of Kashmiri hospitality when locals opened the doors of the Jamia Masjid to provide them shelter.

The tourists were returning from the Sonmarg area on Friday when their vehicles got stuck due to heavy snow, leaving them unable to reach their destinations.

With nearby hotels and homes too small to accommodate the group, residents of Gund offered the mosque as a refuge.

Bashir Ahmed, a local resident, explained that the mosque’s hamam, which stays warm through the night, made it an ideal sanctuary for the tourists.

The Jamia Masjid in Gund is situated less than 10 kilometers from Gagangir, where a terror attack claimed six lives earlier this year. Despite the tragic history of the region, this act of kindness highlights the enduring spirit of humanity among locals.

A video showing the tourists spending the night inside the mosque has gone viral on social media.

In the video, a tourist expressed gratitude, saying, “We were stuck in the snow, and you came to our aid. We are very grateful to all of you.”
