Raghav Chadha criticizes tax burden on common man in Rajya Sabha
New Delhi: During a discussion on the Finance Bill 2025 and The Appropriation (No. 3) Bill, 2025, AAP MP Raghav Chadha criticized the heavy tax burden on the common man, arguing that people remain trapped in taxation from birth to death.
Speaking in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, he urged the government to reduce taxes to boost economic growth.
“Today, I am speaking like a common man, not a CA,” Chadha said, addressing Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
He alleged that she often responds to his questions with personal taunts, questioning his qualifications. However, he asserted that beyond degrees, the issue at hand is how the government collects taxes at every stage without ensuring adequate facilities for citizens.
Chadha questioned the benefits taxpayers receive, asking, “Does the government provide free or quality healthcare? Do we have better roads, affordable education, or safer public transport?”
He claimed that while Indians pay taxes comparable to those in developed nations, they receive services akin to those in underdeveloped countries.
