Rahul Gandhi demands Adani’s arrest and probe into Sebi chief over bribery allegations
New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday called for the immediate arrest of industrialist Gautam Adani and a thorough investigation into the role of Madhabi Puri Buch, the chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), following fresh allegations of bribery and fraud.
Addressing a press conference, Gandhi referred to claims made by US lawyers that Adani and his associates allegedly paid $250 million in bribes to Indian officials. He said the allegations demonstrate clear violations of both Indian and US laws by Adani and his associates.
“The Prime Minister’s slogan of ‘ek hain to safe hain’ (together we are safe) applies only to Modi and Adani,” Gandhi remarked, alleging a close nexus between the businessman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He demanded that Adani be arrested and questioned, and that Sebi chief Buch be removed from her position to enable an impartial investigation.
The Adani Group has yet to respond to these allegations.
Meanwhile, Gandhi’s remarks are expected to intensify the political battle over alleged crony capitalism and regulatory lapses under the current administration.
