Rekha Gupta to be sworn in as Delhi’s new Chief Minister

New Delhi: Rekha Gupta, BJP MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has been named the new Chief Minister of Delhi after her selection was confirmed at the BJP legislature party meeting. She will be the fourth woman to hold the post after Sushma Swaraj, Sheila Dikshit, and Atishi.

Gupta met Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena at Raj Niwas to stake her claim to form the government. She was accompanied by BJP leaders, including central observers Ravi Shankar Prasad and O P Dhankar, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva, and MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Praveen Khandelwal, and Kamaljit Sehrawat.

The swearing-in ceremony will take place at Ramlila Maidan tomorrow, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Amit Shah, BJP president J P Nadda, and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states expected to attend. Around 30,000 people are anticipated at the event.

Gupta won the Shalimar Bagh seat by defeating AAP’s Bandana Kumari by over 29,000 votes. The BJP secured 48 out of 70 seats in the February 5 Delhi Assembly elections, marking its return to power in the capital after 26 years.

The Aam Aadmi Party, which ruled Delhi for a decade, was reduced to 22 seats, with key leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, facing defeats.
