Sanjay Singh faces Rs 100 crore defamation suit filed by Goa CM’s wife
New Delhi: A Delhi court has issued a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh in connection with a Rs 100-crore defamation suit filed by Sulakshana Sawant, wife of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant. The case relates to allegations made by Singh during a press conference, accusing Sulakshana of involvement in a ‘cash-for-job’ scam.
Sulakshana Sawant filed the complaint in the civil court of Bicholim, North Goa, alleging that the statements were defamatory and baseless. Acting on her complaint, the Civil Affairs Judge issued a notice to Singh, directing him to respond by January 10, 2025.
Through her legal team, Sulakshana requested the court to compel Singh to issue a public apology, clarifying that the claims made in the videos, articles, and interviews were false. She also sought an unconditional apology and asked the court to restrain Singh from making further defamatory statements on social media platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
The court is set to hear the matter in January next year.
