SC court asks Punjab government and Governor to settle matter amicably
New Delhi: Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Tuesday urged the Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit to take action even before approaching the Supreme Court.
During the hearing, the CJI emphasized that governors should take action before matters reach the Supreme Court, rather than waiting for the issue to escalate to that point. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for November 10.
In fact, following the government’s petition in the Supreme Court, Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit has reversed his stance. The Governor had previously approved two out of the three money bills set to be passed in the Assembly, but several bills are still pending.
The petition filed in the Supreme Court by the Punjab government asserts that the Governor is not approving bills passed in the Assembly. The state government had submitted the petition to the Supreme Court on October 28, contesting the Governor’s position.
