SC grants relief to sacked SSP Rajjit Hundal; Anticipatory bail granted in drug case

New Delhi: In a major relief to sacked former SSP Rajjit Hundal in a drug racket case, the Supreme Court has granted anticipatory bail to him and also issued a notice to the Punjab government by the apex court. 
       Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had dismissed the bail plea of the dismissed SSP in August.
       The government had in April registered a case against former SSP Rajjit Hundal and dismissed him from service after the High Court filed an inquiry report into the drug case opened in March. He has been absconding since he was sacked. 
        Earlier in July, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had stayed for a week the process of declaring SSP Rajjit Singh Hundal, who has been made an accused in a drug smuggling case, an accused in a drug smuggling case. 
      The court had asked Hundal to file anticipatory bail first, other matters would be heard later by the court. 
       Hundal filed a petition in the high court seeking a CBI probe into the case. demanded to be handed over. 
       Questioning the petition, the high court asked why the petition was not filed directly seeking anticipatory bail. While filing the petition, Rajjit Hundal said that all the action taken against him is completely wrong. 
      The orders to dismiss him were also issued in violation of the rules. The high court had said that the procedure for declaring the petitioner a fugitive and a lookout notice against him was also issued contrary to the laid down procedure.
