Sensex, Nifty fall for fifth consecutive day; investors lose Rs 2 lakh crore

New Delhi: The Indian stock market declined for the fifth straight session on Thursday, March 13. The Sensex fell 201 points (0.27%) to close at 73,828.91, while the Nifty 50 dropped 73 points (0.33%) to settle at 22,397.20.

Despite the continued decline, the Sensex has lost only 0.70% over the past five sessions.

The midcap and smallcap segments also saw losses, with the BSE Midcap index falling 0.77% and the Smallcap index declining 0.62%.

Investors suffered a loss of nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in a single day as the total market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies fell from Rs 393 lakh crore to Rs 391 lakh crore.
