Shimla snowfall disrupts traffic, closes 87 roads

Shimla: Snowfall across Himachal Pradesh, including the popular hill station of Shimla, has led to the closure of 87 roads, affecting connectivity and power supply in various districts.

According to reports, snowfall was recorded in Khoksar (6.7 cm), Khadrala (5 cm), Sangla (3.6 cm), Keylong (3 cm), and Shimla (2.5 cm). Additionally, several areas experienced light rainfall.

In Shimla district, 58 roads were blocked in sub-divisions such as Rohru, Jubbal, and Kotkhai. In Kinnaur, 17 roads were affected, with the majority in the Pooh (12) and Kalpa blocks.

The Rohtang Pass National Highway was closed for traffic due to snow accumulation beyond the Gulaba check post.

Shimla, which received its first December snowfall in decades, saw disruptions to power supply, with over 457 lines affected across Chamba, Mandi, and Sirmaur districts.

The Meteorological Department has forecast more light rain and snow in the districts of Lahaul and Spiti, Kullu, and Kinnaur in the coming hours. Some areas in Sirmaur district are also expected to receive light rainfall during this period.
