23 AIIMS Across India Face 2,244 Faculty and 16,542 Non-Faculty Vacancies, Nadda replies Arora in Rajya Sabha

Ludhiana News: In addition to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, Government has approved setting up of 22 new AIIMS under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).

This has been stated by Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda in an answer to questions on shortage of faculty and healthcare services in AIIMS asked by MP (Rajya Sabha) from Ludhiana Sanjeev Arora in the ongoing Budget Session of Rajya Sabha.

  The Minister also provided the status of sanctioned and currently operational AIIMS State /UT wise along with details of faculty and non-faculty positions.

In a statement today, Arora said as per the available data, of the total 5,943 sanctioned faculty positions, only 3,699 posts are filled and the remaining 2,244 posts are vacant in 23 AIIMS across the country. Likewise, of the total 56,078 sanctioned non-faculty positions, 39,536 posts are filled and the remaining 16,542 posts are vacant.

He said everyone knowns that Delhi is capital of the India. At AIIMS, New Delhi, there are a total 1235 sanctioned faculty positions. Of this, 810 are filled and 425 are lying vacant. Of the 14343 sanctioned Non-Faculty positions, 12101 posts are filled and 2242 posts are lying vacant. Almost similar is the position at other places across the country.

At AIIMS, Bathinda (Punjab) where MBBS Classes / OPD/IPD are Operational. There are a total 209 sanctioned faculty positions. Of this, 140 are filled and 69 are lying vacant. Of the 1624 sanctioned Non-Faculty positions, 1128 posts are filled and 496 posts are lying vacant.

The data further reveals that AIIMS Awantipora (Kashmir) is under construction. There are a total 94 sanctioned faculty positions. Of these, no post is filled and as such, all 94 posts are lying vacant. Of the 252 sanctioned Non-Faculty position, 2 posts are filled and 250 posts are vacant.

In Punjab’s another neighbouring state of Haryana, AIIMS at Rewari is also under construction. There is no sanctioned faculty position. Of the 7 sanctioned Non-Faculty positions, 1 posts is filled and 6 posts are lying vacant.

At AIIMS Darbhanga (Bihar) also, work is in progress. Here no faculty position is sanctioned. Of the 7 sanctioned Non-Faculty positions, 1 posts is filled and 6 posts are vacant.

Arora had asked about the total number of AIIMS that have been sanctioned and are currently operational, State/UT-wise. He had also asked about the current status of shortage of faculty and healthcare service providers in AIIMS, State/UT-wise. Besides, he had asked about the steps being taken by Government to address the shortage of faculty and healthcare service providers in these institutions.

The Minister further mentioned in his answer that creation of posts and recruitment is a continuous process. In order to expeditiously fill vacant sanctioned positions in various AIIMS, certain steps have been taken by the government.
