Snowfall and rain at many places in Kashmir brings early cold

Cold weather has started early in the valley due to snow in the higher reaches of Kashmir, including Gulmarg and Sonmarg, and rain in the plains.

“Heavy snowfall occurred in many areas of Kashmir including Gulmarg, Sonmarg, Gurez and Karnah during midnight. More than two inches of snow has accumulated in Gulmarg, while heavy snowfall has occurred in the higher reaches of the valley,” he said. He said the city’s Zabarwan mountain range also received snowfall during the night.

Srinagar city and other parts of the Valley received moderate rain in the wee hours today, bringing down the temperature by several degrees.

This time people have already started wearing winter clothes like sweaters and heavy jackets. Tourists who have come here to avoid the pollution caused by fireworks on Diwali in the country are very happy to see the snowfall. 

Apple growers in south Kashmir are worried as heavy snowfall before December not only threatens to damage their crops this year but will also damage trees.
