Stampede at New Delhi Railway Station kills at least 16, injures 10
New Delhi: A stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on Saturday evening left 16 people dead, including three children, and injured 10 others. The incident occurred on platforms 14, 15, and 16 as a large crowd gathered to board a train to Maha Kumbh.
According to the Chief Casualty Medical Officer of LNJP Hospital, the injured have been admitted to the hospital. Railway police stated that the sudden surge in the crowd led to the tragedy. Eyewitnesses reported that people were trampled as the crowd surged unexpectedly.
A high-level inquiry has been ordered by the Railways to investigate the incident. An eyewitness claimed that there was no Railway Protection Force (RPF) or police present at the station during the stampede.
Expressing grief, authorities conveyed condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.
