Storm and rain alerts issued across India; lightning kills 7, heatwave grips north

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country. Eleven states, including Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, are expected to experience thunderstorms on Tuesday.
A heavy rain warning has also been issued for 13 states, including Jharkhand and Bihar.
In Jharkhand, five people were killed due to lightning strikes, while Maharashtra reported two similar deaths.
Meanwhile, Bengaluru continues to reel under heavy rainfall since Monday. Many roads in the city are submerged, and over 500 houses have been flooded.
In BTM Layout, a 12-year-old boy and a 63-year-old man died after being electrocuted in a water-logged apartment.
In another incident, a 35-year-old woman died when a wall collapsed in the Whitefield area. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for Bengaluru, warning of more heavy rain today.
While several regions battle rain and storms, the northern plains are facing intense heat.
The IMD has issued a heatwave warning for Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, and Chandigarh. Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh recorded a maximum temperature of 46°C, while Banda in Uttar Pradesh was the hottest in the country at 46.6°C.
