Supreme Court seeks response on CBI plea against Ram Rahim’s acquittal
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday issued a notice to Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh and four others in response to a plea by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) challenging their acquittal in a 2002 murder case.
A bench comprising Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar sought the response of those acquitted in the case, including Singh.
The CBI’s plea contests the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s May 28, 2024, decision to acquit Singh and four co-accused in the murder of former sampradaya manager Ranjit Singh.
The apex court’s move marks the latest development in the high-profile case, with the CBI continuing its efforts to secure a conviction for the alleged crime.
