Supreme Court summons Baba Ramdev, Balkrishna in allopathic medicine case
New Delhi: The Supreme Court has summoned Baba Ramdev and Balkrishna in the case concerning the effects of allopathic drugs. During today’s hearing, the Supreme Court took a strict stance and questioned Baba Ramdev on why action should not be taken for contempt of court.
The court stated that prima facie, the two individuals had violated the law. The next hearing in the case is scheduled to take place in two weeks.
During the previous hearing, the top court had issued a notice to Patanjali Ayurved and its Managing Director Acharya Balkrishna, asking why contempt proceedings should not be initiated against them for prima facie violation of the company’s affidavit filed in court regarding the advertisement of its products and their medicinal efficacy.
The Supreme Court had also directed the Centre to explain to the court the steps taken against Patanjali regarding advertisements that claimed “permanent relief, cure, and eradication” from diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, thyroid issues, asthma, glaucoma, arthritis, and others.
