Suspense Ends: Atishi to be sworn in as new Delhi CM on Sept 21
New Delhi: The suspense surrounding the swearing-in of Delhi’s new Chief Minister has finally ended. The oath-taking ceremony is set for 4:30 PM on September 21 at Raj Niwas. Confusion had previously arisen when ministers, including Atishi, were unable to take the oath from the Lieutenant Governor’s (LG) office.
The delay was due to procedural requirements, as the resignation file of outgoing CM Arvind Kejriwal had not yet reached the LG office. The resignation must first be approved by the President, after which the file is sent to the LG office.
Despite the uncertainty, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had already fixed the date for the swearing-in. Along with Atishi, several cabinet ministers will also take the oath, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Imran Hussain. A new face, Mukesh Ahlawat, AAP MLA from Sultanpur Majra, will also join the cabinet.
Atishi will become the third woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following the late Sheila Dikshit and Sushma Swaraj. Her nomination was put forward by Arvind Kejriwal and received unanimous support from the party.
